Modular Breaching Insert System – MBI-S is a modular training system that converts standard residential, commercial, and shoot house doors into realistic breaching doors. By using real locksets and correct door mass, the system produces true-to-life latch shear, bolt pull-through, and door skin deformation while avoiding the overbuilt behavior of traditional steel breaching doors. Doors remain fully functional and lockable when not configured for breaching, making the system ideal for dual-use training environments and shoot houses.

Description
Modular Breaching Insert System – MBI-S
The Modular Breaching Insert System (MBI-S) is a modular breaching training platform designed to convert standard residential, commercial, and shoot house doors into realistic breaching doors. Unlike traditional breaching doors that rely on heavy steel construction and artificial reinforcement, MBI-S preserves correct door mass and hardware behavior to produce realistic failure modes at the point of defeat.
The system focuses on true-to-life latch shear, bolt pull-through, and door skin deformation using real locksets, allowing operators to train against targets that behave like the doors they encounter operationally. When not configured for breaching, doors remain fully functional and lockable, making MBI-S well suited for dual-use training environments and shoot houses.
Realistic Failure Where It Matters
MBI-S is intentionally designed to replicate the failure modes most commonly encountered during real-world breaching. By utilizing actual door hardware and maintaining realistic door weight, the system avoids the overbuilt behavior seen in many steel breaching doors that are often more difficult to defeat than real targets.
Modular Architecture and Core Components
At the center of the system is the Door Panel Insert Receiver, a C-channel assembly that indexes on the door panel and accepts either consumable lockset inserts or the Multi-Method Breaching Insert. This receiver provides consistent geometry and repeatable placement across training reps while allowing rapid reconfiguration.
The Frame Anchor reinforces the strike side of the door frame and provides a controlled load path for breaching forces when real locksets are used. It is designed to wear sacrificially over time and can be replaced by the end user as needed.
The Multi-Method Breaching Insert installs into the Door Panel Insert Receiver and uses standard 1×2 inch strapping to provide adjustable retention and resistance. This insert enables training with rams, inward pry tools, inward hydraulic tools, ballistic breaching, KBT tools, and explosive latch charges without reconfiguring the door.
Consumable Lockset Fabrication
MBI-S includes two dedicated fabrication jigs that allow instructors to control realism, cost, and training volume.
The Live Lockset Fabrication Jig enables the production of consumable lockset inserts using real door knobs and deadbolts installed into wood stock. This allows training against actual hardware with realistic defeat characteristics while keeping consumables low-cost and replaceable.
The Simulated Lockset Fabrication Jig supports the creation of low-cost lockset inserts using wooden dowels or metal rod to represent locking pins. This option is intended for high-volume training where full hardware realism is not required but consistent geometry and repeatability are still critical.
All required drill bits for lockset fabrication are included with the system.
Instructor Workflow and Training Efficiency
MBI-S is designed to minimize instructor workload while maximizing repetitions. If a door is already hung, installation of the Door Panel Insert Receiver typically takes 10–15 minutes, with an additional 3–5 minutes required to install the Frame Anchor. One instructor can complete installation, though two people may be preferred when hanging or rehanging door panels.
Between breaching repetitions, the system can be reset in approximately 5–10 seconds, allowing instructors to run high-tempo training without extended downtime. Consumables are localized to the lockset or insert area, reducing material waste and reset complexity.
Shoot House and Dual-Use Training Applications
MBI-S is particularly well suited for shoot house environments. Existing interior and exterior shoot house doors can be converted for breaching use when required and returned to normal operation immediately afterward. Doors can be opened, closed, and locked like real doors during force-on-force or CQB training, eliminating the need for permanently dedicated breaching doors.
This dual-use capability allows facilities to support multiple mission profiles without sacrificing realism, space, or infrastructure flexibility.
Transport, Maintenance, and Sustainability
All core components of the MBI-S can be transported in a medium-sized Pelican case. The system is retrofitted to host doors rather than requiring dedicated door assemblies, simplifying storage and logistics.
Wear components such as the Door Panel Insert Receiver and Frame Anchor are designed to be user-replaceable and are available individually. This approach extends system life while keeping long-term ownership costs low.

Phenomenal piece of equipment that takes your breaching to the next level. The ability to interchange targetry with ease is unmatched. Solid product from Joe and his crew!
FBI –
The Breach Pro door insert is one of the most versatile and practical breaching training systems I’ve used.
One of its biggest advantages is how quickly you can switch between hydraulic, manual, ballistic, and explosive breaching dusciplines. That flexibility allows you to move from one discipline to another without wasting valuable training time reconfiguring the entire setup.
Another major advantage is the size and design of the system. It can be incorporated into virtually any shoot house without requiring a dedicated door with an oversized frame. That made it much easier to integrate into our existing door set up.
The jig is another feature that really sets it apart. Being able to quickly and consistently produce dozens of replacement “doors” makes running high-volume training significantly easier. Instead of spending a disproportionate amount of time rebuilding training props, you can concentrate on getting repetitions.
You can rep the entry all day but without incorporating the breach routinely you’re shortchanging your teams training.
Combined Systems Training –
The MBI Door Expansion Kit takes an already useful training system and makes it even more versatile.
Once you see the benefit of being able to repeatedly train multiple breachers on one realistic door, the ability to add additional doors throughout a facility makes perfect sense. It allows instructors to expand beyond training at a single doorway and start incorporating breaching into larger scenarios and more realistic training evolutions.
From an instructor’s standpoint, that’s a big advantage. Instead of needing multiple dedicated breaching doors or constantly rebuilding training props, additional doors can be set up using the same concept. Teams can work different locations, push and pull configurations, and multiple breaching problems while still getting the repetitions they need.
For agencies and training facilities that already have the MBI-S, the Expansion Kit is a logical next step. It increases training capacity and gives instructors considerably more flexibility without requiring an entirely new breaching system.
Joe and the Breach Pro crew have once again taken a real training problem and developed a practical solution for it. That’s what keeps them at the forefront of breaching technology.

Fantastic, thorough, scalable, modular and stout! CQB without constant breaching reps isn’t sufficient! Great kits, worth every penny!
Royal Arms –
The MBI-S stands out as one of the most realistic breaching training systems available. By using real locksets and proper door mass, it converts ordinary residential, commercial, or shoot-house doors into targets that behave like real doors on the street.
Traditional steel training doors are often overbuilt and teach bad habits, while cheap disposable doors fall apart without providing consistent feedback. The MBI-S provides true feedback, which is critical for ballistic breaching. Performing shotgun work on real hardware is a game-changer for shot placement and expectations.
Additionally, resets take only 5–10 seconds, allowing teams to run high-volume repetitions with minimal training costs and without destroying host doors or rebuilding props. It is the first system that feels like an actual training aid rather than a compromise.
